India will celebrate her 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday. To mark the occasion, sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan released a beautiful rendition of our national anthem.
In collaboration with his sons, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, the maestro reimagined the anthem with only sarod strings. In the black and white video released by Airtel, the trio is seen performing 'Jana Gana Mana' in pristine white outfits, shiny sarods in their hands and pure satisfaction of belting out a soulful tune.
"I hope that every proud Indian connects to the ethos of our Independence Day. This is a tribute to our freedom fighters, soldiers and a celebration of the Independence of our great Nation," Ustad Amjad Ali Khan said in a statement.
Our national anthem was written by Rabindranath Tagore. Originally titled, 'Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata' the first stanza of the poem written by the Nobel laureate was adopted as the National Anthem in India's constitution. It was publicly performed for the first time by Sarala Devi Chowdhurani (Tagore's niece)during a session of the Indian National Congress on December 27, 1911, in Kolkata.
National anthem takes 52-seconds to play in its entirety.
