Delhi Traffic cops gear up for kanwar yatras, issues advisory

The Delhi Traffic Police has geared up to tackle the traffic congestion faced by people in the city during the month of Shravan. Several arrangements are being made to rescue the people from the long stream of conveyance and nuisance on the roads. Every year, the kanwariyas cover a journey on foot carrying holy "Gangajal" as an offering at Shiva temples on Shravan Shivratri.

Although there is a great amount of zeal in people regarding this festival, yet they suffer a lot of inconveniences and the devotees hinder the path of the vehicles on the road. The kanwariyas destined for Delhi and different cities of Haryana and Rajasthan will start coming to Delhi on July 28 onwards and their number will increase from August 4.

The main routes for pedestrian kanwariyas through Delhi would be Apsara Border – Shahdara Flyover – Seelampur 'T' Point – ISBT Flyover – Boulevard Road – Rani Jhansi Road – Faiz Road – Upper Ridge Road (Vandemataram Marg) – Dhaula Kuan – NH 8 and exit from Rajokri Border to enter Haryana , Maharajpur Border, Road No. 56, Ghazipur Border – NH 24 – Ring Road – Mathura Road and exit from Badarpur Border to enter Haryana ,Kalindi Kunj – Mathura Road – Badarpur Border and Kalindi Kunj – Mathura Road – Modi Mill - Maa Anand Mai Marg – M.B. Road. Th Traffic Police have also planned to manage the diversions during the hour of the rush.

In addition to these important roads and intersections, kanwariyas movement is observed in smaller numbers in several locations all over Delhi. The Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements to segregate the movement of kanwariyas and other road users and to minimize inconvenience to the general public and devotees. The devotees and road users are advised to follow the traffic rules and obey the directions of policemen on duty, during this period of kanwariyas movement, traffic violations will be checked by on the spot prosecution and by photography/videography of violations which will be followed by prosecution.

"Motorists and road users are advised to plan their movement in advance to avoid inconvenience and delay", said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner Of Police (Traffic).

STARTS JULY 28

The kanwariyas destined for Delhi and different cities of Haryana and Rajasthan will start coming to Delhi on July 28 onwards and their number will increase from August 4.
